1. Heartwise Blood Pressure tracker

HeartWise is an easy to use application for quickly recording and keeping track of your blood pressure, resting heart rate, and weight.

Audible (iOS & Andriod): app that allows you to download audio books and listen to them on your device.

Pastime Audio BookPlayer (iOS): app that plays audio books. Pick an audio book from the iTunes library, then tap the screen to play or pause it and use swiping motions to fast-forward or rewind it.

8. Sound Amplification Apps

These clever apps work by increasing sound levels and minimizing background noise:

SoundAMP R (iOS & Android): app that amplifies sound and speech. You can record conversations and then play them back with louder sound. You need to use wired headphones with this App and it cannot amplify music or phone calls.

uListen (iOS): a sound amplifier app that makes the sounds picked-up by your phone’s microphone sound louder. It is suitable for listening to the TV, increasing the volume of conversations, or for listening to sounds around the house.

LouderTV (iOS): a personal amplifier app that increases TV sounds for people with hearing impairments. Plug your headphones into your phone and the app will send what is being said on the TV straight to your phone at an increased volume level.

The Pocket Physio app by Care UK is an easy to use guide for physiotherapy exercises involved in preparing for and recovering from orthopaedic surgery. Available to download from iTunes, Android or to your home computer.

11. Dragon Dictation, FREE

Dragon Dictation is an easy-to-use voice recognition application powered by Dragon® NaturallySpeaking® that allows you to easily speak and instantly see your text or email messages. It is supposed to be up to 5 times faster than typing on the keyboard.

12. Skype

Skype is fantastic for stay in visual contact with friends and family through video calls and messaging. Skype is available on all mobile platforms. You can also use FaceTime if both of you have iPhones or iPads.

13. Scrabble, FREE

You can play the scrabble app on your own or it also has multiplayer capacity enabling you to play with friends and family from a distance. Excellent fun!
