A Sad Day For Comedy – Our Top 5 Billy Connolly Performances.

Billy Connolly announces he is stepping down to focus on becoming even more ‘windswept and interesting’. The ‘Big Yin’ will no longer be touring after 50 years in the business.

Partly due to a desire to relax on the shores of Loch Lomond and partly due to his relatively recent Parkinson’s diagnosis. The Glaswegian comedian who has made a very fine living out of telling it like it is wasn’t about to take any ‘nonsense’ from his old friend Michael Parkinson who recently claimed that Billy had been ‘dulled’ by the age-related disease. Billy replied that perhaps Parky should stick to ‘selling funerals’  in reference to Michael Parkinson’s life insurance ads.

Billy Connolly – The Early Days.

Billy Connolly started in show business way back in the early ’70s, having transformed himself from rebel rousing folk talent alongside friend Gerry Rafferty in The Humblebums to irreverent, side-splitting ‘windswept and interesting’ comedian.

Billy was perhaps ‘alternative’ before there was such a thing, nothing was out of bounds for Billy’s humour and his fans loved it.

His talent knew no bounds from chart-topping singles and comedy albums (33 in total so far) to worldwide sell-out tours to his BAFTA-nominated performance in Mrs Brown alongside the wonderful Judi Dench.

‘Life is supposed to be fun. It’s not a job or occupation. We’re here only once and we should have a bit of a laugh.’ – Billy Connolly.

Couldn’t agree more Billy and here’s hoping you enjoy your retirement and ‘have a bit of a laugh’ too.
