Let’s face it, it’s embarrassing and a bit of a taboo subject – but incontinence or light bladder leakage is something that 1 in 3 women at some time in their lives will be affected by (and it gets more common as we get older) and a staggering 1 in 4 of the world’s population will experience – the gents aren’t spared either. But don’t worry, here at Spring Chicken we have searched the globe and have found a fantastic solution, a brand of incontinence underwear that works brilliantly and looks gorgeous!
Currently, exclusive to Spring Chicken in the UK, Confitex is a new brand of incontinence underwear conceived and designed by two elite sportsmen in New Zealand… Sounds odd but it’s true.
So how did it come about?
Mark Davey and Frantisek Riha-Scott, the co-founders are both ex alpine ski racers that met back in 2006, and ski racing is an industry with a need for specialist garment technology which plays an all important part to their story. Based on their insight into the needs of endurance athletes has led them to create a unique hi-tech fabric that ensures you stay dry and comfortable. Here’s the clever bit, it uses your body’s heat to keep you dry and wicks away fluid, leaving you able to continue your day. It was only after many friends and family quietly pointed out that there are probably more people in need of incontinence products than endurance athletes – that they turned their attention to using their technology in lingerie and men’s underwear, and we are so thankful that they did! Fast forward to the present day they are responsible for the design and manufacture of fashionable, functional knickers and briefs for people experiencing bladder control problems.
Confitex is a patented world first underwear technology which is not only fashionable, but machine washable, absorbent, breathable and waterproof without the need of a bulky pad. It’s perfectly discreet and gives confidence to anyone at risk of getting caught short with bladder control issues. Just wash it and reuse as you would normal underwear. No one will ever know Wherever you go, whatever you do, your Confitex underwear will remain a secret. This means shared changing rooms when shopping are no longer a problem and you change in confidence at the gym as your underwear looks just like other people’s. You can even breeze through doctor’s visits free of embarrassment. Catwalk confidence The products are so stunning they were showcased at New Zealand’s Fashion Week in the summer where they caused quite a stir. This was the first time, anywhere worldwide, that incontinence underwear had graced a catwalk as a designer range.

And the environment wins too. Did you know that people experiencing incontinence can use 4-6 pads or nappies a day? In just the U.S every year, this totals a staggering 3.8 million tons of rubbish. Also because of the chemicals and plastics in pads mostly the only option is to send them to landfills. As a result they comprise as much as 15% of total waste in landfills taking an estimated 500 years to biodegrade. Here’s the good news. Confitex last as long as normal underwear. And, even when it comes time to say goodbye it’s not the end of the world. They can biodegrade in less than 10 years. So there you have it, a world-leading patented textile underwear technology which is well designed, fashionable, affordable, washable and absorbent, and environmentally friendly.
