Back in early 1970’s LA, The Eagles were indeed the New Kids in Town with the LA rock scene at their feet. Fast forward nearly 50 years and they are still grabbing headlines.
The ’70s country rock band have managed to outsell Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ album to become the biggest-selling album of all-time in the US as decreed by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The Eagles – Greatest Hits 1971-1975 released in 1976 features the best from the bands first 4 albums including Take It Easy, Lyin’ Eyes and One of These Nights. The album has been certified 38x platinum surpassing Michael Jackson’s Thriller at 33X platinum.
The Eagles have just announced a worldwide tour and are to include Europe and Oceania in early 2019. Sadly, Glenn Frey passed away aged just 67 back in 2016 but is replaced by his son Deacon in the lineup. Considering the fact that in the early 1980s the band had a highly publicised and acrimonious split declaring they would only get back together when Hell freezes over. Which rather fittingly was to become their reunion album in 1994 ‘Hell Freezes Over’.
The Eagles have sold out stadiums ever since at their leisure after their self-induced ’14-year vacation’ drawing on their hugely impressive back catalogue and their phenomenal ability to write great country-rock tunes.
Whilst occasionally dismissed by music journalists as MOR country pop artists the Eagles ongoing legacy will forever provide fans, the world over, with that Peaceful Easy Feeling.
