Last year it was forty years since the Queen’s Silver Jubilee of 1977. For many, it was the high point of the 1970s, a distraction from the economic woes.
All the festive souvenirs were available for the silver jubilee celebration – tins of chocolates, tea and biscuits, bottles of beer and jigsaw puzzles.
Some food manufacturers made a special effort, creating jubilee trifle, ice lollies, ice cream, bread, margarine and the Co-op’s Jubilade strawberry drink. But the memories were mostly to do with the fun of the street parties.
