1977 The Queen's Silver Jubilee.

Last year it was forty years since the Queen's Silver Jubilee of 1977. For many, it was the high point of the 1970s, a distraction from the economic woes. All the festive souvenirs were available for the silver jubilee celebration - tins of chocolates, tea and biscuits, bottles of beer and jigsaw puzzles.

Some food manufacturers made a special effort, creating jubilee trifle, ice lollies, ice cream, bread, margarine and the Co-op's Jubilade strawberry drink. But the memories were mostly to do with the fun of the street parties.

Discover the fascinating history of consumer culture from Victorian times to the present day at the Museum of Brands.
